If it's not raining on Sunday morning, the Sunday bike ride will go off at 9:00am from 598 Lake Drive. The ride will be a good one for beginners, going about 15 miles at 11 MPH. Mountain bikes, hybrids, and road bikes are all suitable.
Rick Eckert 71.97.185.153 Saturday, May 03, 2008 07:33:57 AM
Hi everybody. Our first ride will be on May 10 so plan to join us. We start with some 15 mile rides at about 14mph then work up as the season progresses. First-time riders are welcome and encouraged... Rick

Finally had some nice weather in Ft. Wayne today, so we got out on the road for awhile. It felt really good after this lousy winter, but the road surfaces are a mess. I'm going to do my best to join in for a few Sat 8am rides this year, so let us know when you're starting up. Of course, I'll be in the "old guys" bracket myself ;-)

Hi Terry, we usually start up shortly after the first of May, weather permitting. Rick

Hi Bruce, the information for the pokagon ride is at http://clearlakeindiana.org/pokagon/ including route maps. This year the ride is an unsponsored ride with no signup, no fees, no food, and no SAG... just get a group and ride whenever you want.
The routes start at Bakers restaurant (way point #1 on the maps) as in previous years.
Sorry, we have no rides scheduled up here for the next ten days as after Labor Day the seasonal group scatters. Hope this helps. Rick

Where can I get more information on the Pokagon Overnighter Weekend September 7-9, 2007 bicycle tour? Location, Start Time ect. Are you planning a group ride any evening during the week of Sept 5-7, let me know, would like to join.
Rick Eckert 71.97.191.82 Friday, August 03, 2007 10:40:34 AM
Rides this weekend: Saturday Aug 4, 20-25 @13.5 mph. On Sunday I won't be riding because of a family reunion so there may or may not be anyone to ride at 8:00am. If you're definately going to ride, maybe post here so others will know.
Rick Eckert 71.97.215.90 Thursday, July 12, 2007 08:49:46 PM
Hi Kevin, we'll ride as usual on Saturday and Sunday 15-20 miles. If we have enough riders we'll split into faster and slower groups. Hope you join us, Rick
Kevin Wilson 68.58.63.46 Thursday, July 12, 2007 05:27:14 PM
I'll be visiting the in-laws' lake cottage this weekend (lake George). Do you have any rides scheduled for the 15th or is everyone doing the 3RVS Tour? Thanks! Kevin

Hi guys- sorry we haven't been out together since I've been here - it's been a crazy week. We're riding Thursday morning starting at 7:15 leaving from 414 Lake Dr. We're expecting to be out about 3 hours, distance/route yet undertermined. It's not going to be a complete hammer-fest, but may be a quick at times (town line sprints etc). Hope to see everyone - if not for the whole ride, join us for the start!
Jeff

Rick,
Just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed the opportunity to ride this past Saturday and Sunday with you guys. I hope to make it up again before the summer is over. Again, thanks for everything and you made it a great experience for a novice.
Rick Eckert 71.97.215.90 Thursday, July 05, 2007 01:12:02 PM
The Saturday July 7 ride will be 15 miles @ 14.5 mph and also for Sunday July 8. If faster riders show up we'll send them off on a longer and faster ride :)
Ron Oldsen 167.6.245.98 Thursday, July 05, 2007 12:39:26 PM
Hey Jamie Thompson, if you're planning on driving over this Saturday to ride you'd better check with Rick or post here for a response because I'll be getting ready for company and won't be able to ride. Hope you had a great 4th!
Rick Eckert 71.97.215.90 Saturday, June 30, 2007 05:15:25 AM
Sunday's ride
(July 1) will be a short, easy ride of about 14 miles at 13-14mph... perfect for novices. This is a great chance to try a nice bike ride off the lake on pleasant country roads. We'll go East past Little Long Lake, up through Montgomery, Michigan and return to Clear Lake through Ray Michigan. Only three short inclines on the whole
trip! Come join us at 598 Lake Drive at 8:00am for this fun ride.
If some more experienced riders show up and want a longer and faster ride, we'll devise a longer route for them. Rick
Jamie Thompson 72.11.13.235 Thursday, June 28, 2007 06:00:22 AM
No problem I was late. I will see you this Saturday and I will show up on time.
Ron Oldsen 71.97.184.114 Sunday, June 24, 2007 05:16:13 PM
Sorry about Saturday morning Jamie! We didn't expect anyone else and we figured Rick was sleeping in so we took off about 8:03. Must have just missed you. We'll do better next time!
Rick Eckert 71.97.215.90 Thursday, June 21, 2007 01:50:11 PM
Hi Kevin and welcome to Steuben County. We often have a very small group (2-3 riders) so decide on the ride according to who shows up. I myself am way behind because of an injury and will be riding only about 20 miles @ 14 this weekend but others like Jeff Compo, Jamie Mason, and Ron Oldsen are faster. Hope to see you for a ride Sat-Sun 8:00am 598 Lake Drive.
Rick Eckert 71.97.215.90 Thursday, June 21, 2007 01:43:10 PM
Hi Jeff, hope to see you soon. I think you would enjoy riding with Jamie Mason from Little Long Lake (younger, faster, etc) so if you want, give him a call at (419) 340-6534. or email davesrun69302@yahoo.com
Kevin Jones 198.62.98.115 Tuesday, June 19, 2007 05:35:29 AM
Just moved to
Steuben County and I am glad to see there is a group ride. Right now I am a little out of shape, not much time to ride while I have been moving. I would be interested in
joining your group for some rides, what pace and mileage are you doing right now?
Jeff Compo 69.54.11.114 Monday, June 18, 2007 05:02:56 PM
Hi guys - I'm going to be in the area the week after the 4th of July - I'm running the 10K Saturday but am interested in joining you for a ride - both my brother-in-law Larry and I are bringing our bikes. I'll probably be riding pretty much every day - let me know if anyone's interested riding mid-week (as well as the usual weekend rides. See you soon!

Hey Rick & Lance (AKA
Ron) you guy's riding this Saturday? And it's 8:00 correct. I will be there. I should have plenty of time if I leave my house @6:10 (sunrise). Hey Lance you riding your Trek or 1985 Honda CB650 (I can't
believe you sold your Cobra).
Jamie
Jamie Thompson 72.11.13.235 Monday, May 21, 2007 12:13:56 PM
Buy a real bike and what? Get to close to the edge of the road and crash and burn. And I just pray that I am as physically fit as you "old men" when I get in my 40's (you like that don't you). There we have pumped each other up enough, now I just need to get over there so we can ride. You guys would have been proud of me Saturday. I placed 27th overall, with a total time of 2 hours 49 minutes and ended up 17th in the bike with a 19.8 MPH
average. Not to bad for a Clydesdale (fat boy).
I am counting the days till baseball is done, see you then.
Jamie
Ron Oldsen 71.97.188.73 Friday, May 18, 2007 10:27:13 AM
Jamie we were always afraid that you would buy a real bike and ____ ___ _____!!! Just remember that you'll be dealing with old men who just haven't given up yet! Our only hope is that you'll ride realllllly hard coming over here and be so tired that you'll behave when you get here--
72.11.13.235 Thursday, May 17, 2007 05:42:07 AM
"I'll be back" (in my best Arnold voice), I will see you guy's in mid June. My boy has baseball games on sat mornings until then. But I will warn you now Lance my injury is healed, I have been training for the upcoming Pokagon tri and I now have a "real" road bike. So be prepared I may be wicked fast, for a
Clydesdale, or maybe not.
Rick Eckert 71.139.38.78 Wednesday, May 16, 2007 09:28:04 PM
Ron's the guy who USED to have a
Cobra. Only a low-end motorcycle now.
Ron Oldsen 167.6.245.98 Wednesday, May 16, 2007 01:16:15 PM
Real nice Jamie, You had my confidence flying high with the thought of being Lances twin, now I'm just
devastated! Aren't you the guy that used to ride with us?? Now we're even!
Jamie Thompson 72.11.13.235 Wednesday, May 16, 2007 12:23:15 PM
Rick refresh my memory-is Ron the guy that looks like Lance
Armstrong's twin brother? hehehe
Ya but he does own a cobra. Hey Ron, just kidding you are the man. See ya soon.
Rick Eckert 75.8.125.140 Monday, May 14, 2007 12:59:57 PM
The regularly-scheduled rides will start on Saturday June 2 this year, so join us then!
If you want to ride before the scheduled rides begin, give a call to Ron Oldsen at (260) 495-2170 and set something
up.
Rick Eckert 71.97.205.46 Tuesday, May 01, 2007 01:43:05 PM
Only some of us work so maybe we'll get a ride in during the week! The usual franchise restaurants are available but on Wednesday nights we head for Skip's Lounge about 8:30 for live blues
music and food. Other favorites are Caruso's Italian (West of Pokagon) and the Lake George Retreat (North), which is a bit more upscale.
If you want, give an email closer to the date and we'll coordinate. There are some more route maps that start at Pokagon on the page at http://clearlakeindiana.org/pokagon/
Rick
Patrick Dymarkowski 131.187.253.130 Tuesday, May 01, 2007 01:23:36 PM
I will be staying at Pokagon around June 27th and plan to do some road biking. I would love to ride with your group but will probably ride during the day while you are all at work. Got some maps from your site- thanks alot! Can you recommend a good place in town, I guess Angola, for an after ride dinner and a beer or two?
Rick Eckert 75.5.101.123 Tuesday, April 03, 2007 08:16:28 AM
Hi Christie, sorry I don't know of any mountain bike trails
around the area, although there may be some. You might also post the question on the regular Clear Lake bulletin board, which enjoys wider readership. http://clearlakeindiana.org/bulletinboard/

Because of the lousy weather nobody rode on May 20th but we'll start the regular weekly rides on May 27th and 28th. As usual, the early season rides will be shorter and slower (15-20 miles @ 15) than later on.
Visitors and beginning road cyclists are all welcome and encouraged to join us. See everyone this weekend or whenever you can make it!
