I am planning a post tour to the midwest tandem rally Labor Day 2010 in Shipsewanna. I am thinking about staying at Pokagon SP and riding loop rides for the week after Labor Day. This will be a group of 20 or so experienced tandem riding teams. I would like help with routes, maps, suggestions of things to see or do in the area. A three state ride might be fun. Hi David. Sorry to say the trail system in these counties is lacking. We ride entirely on public rural roads. Fortunately they don't have much traffic so the riding is great. The Indiana DNR has a trail inventory at http://www.in.gov/dnr/outdoor/files/trailsbyuse.pdf and a bike trails page at http://www.in.gov/dnr/outdoor/4237.htm . I, too, will be visiting Pokagon State Park on about the 4th through the 8th. That doesn't seem to cover your normal rides. I'd like to do the 3-state ride too, but it will have to be during the week. Any hills on the route? I like hills (I'm weird). I'd love some company.

Hello! I live in San Diego and will be visiting my family at 1102 Clear Lake Dr in two days. I would love to go on a bike ride seeing all three states' (IN, MI, OH) official signage of some sort. I know I did this when I was a kid, but would love to receive direction on the best route to take. I'd like to capture a picture in front of an official sign of each state!

May 31 and June 1 start our summer schedule so rides will leave from 598 Lake Drive at 8:30am
each Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday ride (25-30 miles @ 15mph) is usually longer and faster, while
the Sunday ride (14-16 miles @ 12mph) is geared toward those just getting started with road cycling. Our groups are usually small and and we have lots of routes to choose from, so we can easily accommodate any riding ability. See you there!

Recently we've been doing 25 @ 14mph but we'll increase as the season progresses.
Skip's in Angola is good for sandwitches & pizza. Live Blues on Wednesday starting at
9pm for $5 cover, which can be saved by arriving before 8pm. Dave's Lake shack on SR 120
is also popular and close to Pokagon.

Hi Bruce, the information for the pokagon ride is at http://clearlakeindiana.org/pokagon/ including route maps. This year the ride is an unsponsored ride with no signup, no fees, no food, and no SAG... just get a group and ride whenever you want.
The routes start at Bakers restaurant (way point #1 on the maps) as in previous years.

Buy a real bike and what? Get to close to the edge of the road and crash and burn. And I just pray that I am as physically fit as you "old men" when I get in my 40's (you like that don't you). There we have pumped each other up enough, now I just need to get over there so we can ride. You guys would have been proud of me Saturday. I placed 27th overall, with a total time of 2 hours 49 minutes and ended up 17th in the bike with a 19.8 MPH
average. Not to bad for a Clydesdale (fat boy).

Only some of us work so maybe we'll get a ride in during the week! The usual franchise restaurants are available but on Wednesday nights we head for Skip's Lounge about 8:30 for live blues
music and food. Other favorites are Caruso's Italian (West of Pokagon) and the Lake George Retreat (North), which is a bit more upscale.

I will be staying at Pokagon around June 27th and plan to do some road biking. I would love to ride with your group but will probably ride during the day while you are all at work. Here's the ride outlook for the rest of the week...
Wednesday August 30: We'll ride about 30 miles @ 15 mph.
Thursday August 31: No ride scheduled, but leave a message here if you're looking for a ride.
Friday September 1: No ride scheduled (Auburn car auction), but leave a message here if you're looking for a
ride.
Saturday September 2: Ride 30-35 miles averaging 15 mph. Could ride the 52 mile loop to Hillsdale if
someone's interested (leave message here.)
Sunday September 3: Ride 35 miles averaging 15mph.
Monday August 14: No ride scheduled yet, but check back here later.
Rides are cancelled if it's raining (the pavement is wet) otherwise we go.
We start all rides from 598 Lake Drive and leave promptly at 8:00am so plan to arrive no later than 7:55am.
All Clear Lakers and visitors are welcome to join us... just show up at 7:55am. We are a recreational club out
for fun rides. We try to accommodate the skill level of everyone who shows up and no one gets left behind.

We still have
some weeks left in the season so now's the time to join us on a ride. This weekend we'll be riding Friday 8/25, Saturday
8/26, Sunday 8/27 and Monday 8/28 at the usual 8:00am hour. These will be about 30-35 miles @ a 15mph average pace.
If you're yearning for a longer ride, there may be a group going to Hillsdale (52 miles) on Saturday or
Sunday. If you're interested, post a message here with your preference of days.

Hi Bill and welcome to the forum. So far we're riding Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. I suspect someone will ride Tuesday, but I can't say for certain at this time. All rides start at 8:00am sharp from 598 Lake Drive (there's a map on the main cycling page.) Most of the rides are about 25-27 miles at about 15 mph. Because of the lousy weather nobody rode on May 20th but we'll start the regular weekly rides on May 27th and 28th. As usual, the early season rides will be shorter and slower (15-20 miles @ 15) than later on.
Visitors and beginning road cyclists are all welcome and encouraged to join us. See everyone this weekend or whenever you can make it!
